Ground Control has been recognised as a 2025 BALI National Landscape Award winner in the Community and Schools category for Knowle Park in Cranleigh. With the awards ceremony set to take place at in December, Ground Control’s Landscaping team will receive the award.

BALI Award judges noted “genuine buy-in from the Contractor” and highlighted “The construction of the Country Park has clearly created an asset for the community".

Introducing Knowle Park

Completed for Knowle Park Trust, the ambition of the project was to transform a 22.8-hectare plot of previously private land into a community-focused public park that would serve as both a recreational space and an ecological sanctuary for local wildlife. As Principal Contractor, Ground Control’s task was to bring this vision to life, addressing the ecological sensitivities of the site while creating spaces that the local community and schools could use for recreation, learning, and engagement with nature.

The result was a combination of community spaces within the park, including the design and build of a large play area, an accessible toilet block, and an amphitheatre. These works were complemented by significant earthworks and landscaping with extensive tree planting, rich new habitats and a sustainable drainage system (SuDS) implemented to manage flood risks.

Throughout the entire project, Ground Control and the Knowle Park Trust (KPT), ensured that key parts of the park remained safe, open and operational. The team also assisted in planning and hosting corporate planting days and working alongside local volunteer groups.
