Biodiversity, sustainability, and creating a positive impact are high on the agenda at Ground Control, and with that in mind, we spoke with Robyn Coyne, our new Environment and Sustainability Manager, to see how she aims to continue to grow our legacy in this area.

Joining the team from within the Construction and Civil Engineering sector, Robyn previously worked on environmentally complex major developments for the highways sector. In this role she was driving sustainability and relevant initiatives forward.  In the first of her blog series, we asked her "Why Ground Control?", "What are her aims?" and "Why is she passionate about sustainability?"

Why did you decide to join Ground Control?

I am thrilled to be a part of the Ground Control team and working alongside people who have the same passion for nature and the environment as myself. I could see Ground Control doing great work for the environment at Wildfell and Devana, through the Evergreen Fund, and by committing to the Net Zero Journey, and I wanted to be part of that story. Then, adding in innovations and forward thinking by developing the GC Go App, Ground Control looked like an exciting company to be a part of, particularly in my role as Environment & Sustainability Manager.

Looking forward, what do you want to achieve in your role?

It’s important and genuinely exciting to build upon the foundations already set, driving our Net Zero Journey to reach our 2038 target. Beyond this, I want to support and drive the wider sustainability goals, focusing on waste management, biodiversity enhancement, setting clear targets and objectives and a realistic plan on how to achieve them. Then, beyond this, I will look to work collaboratively with our supply chain and Field Teams to continue their great work.

Working closely with Tunley Environmental, we have recently completed our 'Business Carbon Assessment. This involved analysing data from the last Financial Year, against the last 5 years to identify our emissions. The outcome demonstrated a fantastic reduction in carbon emissions and highlighted how the hard work of teams across Ground Control has contributed to this. This will form an important part of fulfilling our Net Zero commitment, and I am excited to continue this work.

What in ' the environment and sustainability' are you passionate about?

It's exciting to see the recent shifts in how people view the environment, and the important part people and businesses play in that. There are lots of new emerging technologies and policies coming into play, and you can see that people really care about leaving a legacy for future generations. It is exciting to be a part of that change and be part of a company that wants to lead the change.

Robyn is an essential part of our 2038 Net Zero target and our sustainability ambitions, working across the company to achieve these.
